Busy, FUN weekend!

John and I had a busy weekend, loaded with fun!

On Thursday night, we went to see the closing movie of the film festival.  It was a Sofia Coppola movie called Somewhere.  It was definitely easier to watch the Trust was, but it was a little slow.  I think next year we're going to have to see more films so we have a better chance of seeing something spectacular!
Oh, and apparently Trust is coming out in theaters (or maybe it came out this weekend), so I apologize if anyone wanted to see it and I ruined it.  It still gives me the chills.

Friday, I went into Hamilton and met John for a quick lunch and some grocery shopping.  We had some friends coming over for dinner on Friday night and since it's Lent, I needed to buy some seafood.  What I found out is that you can not buy clams, mussels, crab claws here.  The fish monger told me it's illegal for them to import them and if they do, its a $20,000 fine!  I don't know what I'm going to do without access to clams!  I guess I'll have to go back to NJ to cook my favorite recipes :-)

Anyway, D.J. and Antoinette came over for dinner and we had a great time!  My cioppino turned into more of a fish soup because of my seafood choices, but it was still tasty.  And Antoinette made a fabulous lavender honey ice cream for dessert!  It was amazing - so good, I had some for breakfast the next morning too!  I'm sorry I don't have any pictures, by the time I remembered my camera, it was way too late to be taking pictures!

Saturday morning, John and I went to the nursery to buy some herbs and vegetables to plant.  We have been loving my mom's garden every summer, so we thought we could try and plant our own.  The woman who helped us at the nursery thought we were NUTS!  We explained it was our first time growing anything, so you can imagine her reaction when we came back with this in our cart......

All of the herbs, lettuce, peppers, jalapeno's and tomatoes!

They had so much to choose from, we couldn't help ourselves!

Saturday late afternoon, we met up with Steve and Emma (John works with Steve) at the Southampton Princess for 9 holes of twilight golf.  It's an executive course, so it was perfect for Emma and I who are beginners (me more then she!).  It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a great time playing with them!

 The course has amazing views!!!!

I pretty much played with one club the entire time!  Thank you rescue!

John's great form!

Saturday night, we met Karl and Marta for dinner at a restaurant called the Waterlot Inn.  They say it's the best steakhouse on the island and I must say, it was delicious!  It's right down the road from both of us, actually, pretty much right in the middle, and it's set in this little cove.  I'm sure it would be the perfect place for cocktails and sunset!  We really had a fantastic time and laughed a lot!  Especially over Karl's meal.  He ordered a 12 oz filet and this is what came out of the kitchen.....

That's right, 2 steaks!  We couldn't stop laughing!  Later, when the waiter came by to ask about dessert and coffee, Karl said something along the lines of, "I definitely need something to help me digest my steaks" and the waiter started laughing too.  Apparently, they ran out of the 12 oz filets, so they gave him two of the 8oz.  That's a LOT of meat!

The insane dessert they call a Snickers Bar!

Sunday morning, we got a call from D.J. and Antoinette to meet them for breakfast at the Lighthouse, which is right up the road.  It was a beautiful morning, so we sat outside and soaked in the sunshine and the view!!!

The view of the south shore in one direction

And of the harbor in the other!

Once we got home, it was straight to the planting!  We put some things in pots and others in the ground. We'll see what takes!  I hope we don't get any of those crazy winds or my plants may be doomed!!

These boxes were already on the property, so we put onions, chives, lemon balm, dill and marjoram in one and jalapeno's and red, yellow and green peppers in the other

Here is our basil (lemon, cinnamon and plain), parsley, tarragon, thyme, oregano, sage, more jalapeno's, cayenne peppers, sherry peppers and all of our tomatoes (cherry's, beefsteak, and some yellow delicious)

And finally, the mint!  It's going to take over the palm for sure!
